Very Helpful Tool
This is a very cleverly designed tool which quickly allows you to see how strony your wifi signal is in different rooms.
In a nutshell, here’s how to do it:
1. Import an image file of your floorpan. It can be anything from an architect plan to a photo of a rough sketch. Then plot two points that you know the distance between - again a rough guess is fine.
2. Walk around your house/flat/office and stop at 3 or 4 places in each room - each time you stop just point and click on that spot on your floorplan.
3. When you have covered the rooms, corridors etc that you are interested in click ‘stop scan’.
4. Pull down the Visualise menu top right and select ‘Signal Level’.
5. Locate the name of the router you are interested in on the left hand column and click its check box.
You should now see a visualisation showing you warmer areas in red (best signal) to cold blue (weak or no signal). This should give you an idea of where you can reposition the router to get the right signal in the right rooms, or indeed if your wifi signal is strong enough for your needs. You’ll notice that the signal is weaker the other side of main structure walls, and passes easily through partition walls.
Another really useful feature is it shows you all of the other wifi signals - in my flat it picked up about 40 others! You will be able to see which ones have strong signals, and of these which wifi channel they broadcast on - so if you suspect you are getting interference (low bandwidth when the signal is strong enough) it will help you work out which signal is interfering and in turn you can select a different wifi channel (in your router settings) - generally the ones to choose from are 1, 6 and 11.
There is a lot more it can do, and there is a paid version which it encourages you to buy, but unless you’re an uber-geek you should be fine with this one.
Excellent tool for mapping your wifi hot and cold spots!
Wifi Survey Software Mac
This software will help you map the “heat signature” of your wifi system, over multiple sources, room by room. It was quick and confirmed my suspicions that, despite technicians trying to tell me otherwise, I had a number of wifi dead zones and many areas with a weak signal.
Fabulous piece of software and highly recommended!
No Receipt For In App Purchase.
I have purchased the NetSpot Pro but have not received any aknowledgement from Apple or NetSpot. Not a very ethical operation going on here. No email with a receipt for the purchase. Very poor way to treat customers. Not overly impressed with the operation of the software either.
